And the final point for 8 Things that Keep Us Young: Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Moxa.

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

For the past several blog entries, I’ve been talking about the 8 Things that Keep Us Young. Or, in other words, how to get older without getting old. The final point on my list is staying in balance and staying strong with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, moxa and massage.

The beauty of Chinese Medicine is that it can be used to correct imbalances that have become illness and pain, or even correct imbalances prior to the appearance of symptoms, therefore preventing disease. Supporting yourself with Acupuncture treatments when you are already healthy helps to prevent illness and also strengthens vitality. Sometimes I have patients come in and say,“hey Rebecca, I’m feeling great, let’s keep it that way.” The Chinese proverb: Don’t wait until you are thirsty to dig a well comes to mind.

Also, when a patient comes in for a specific issue, expediting the healing process brings ease to their body more quickly, provides respite, and allows the body to get back on track. Having less to deal with physically or emotionally helps you to stay young since you’re not spending your energy, or life force, on illness or pain.

Acupuncture, herbs and moxa, keep you young by strengthening, balancing and calming your body and mind. You have a lot of stimuli coming at you every day. The stronger you are, the less a stimulus irritates you. The less irritated you are, the less your body has to do. Acupuncture is wonderful for calming your body and helping to wash away and handle every day stressors.

When you do get sick, acupuncture clears illness quickly so it causes as little damage as possible. For example, it helps to rid the body of a common cold and prevents it from lingering or dropping into your chest and becoming a long term cough which can weaken you. In other words, Acupuncture nips it in the bud.

I hope you have enjoyed this blog series. If you have questions about any of the points, please let me know!
